The Symantec Ghost Explorer is a program designed for opening GHO extension files. GHO stands for the Ghost File, a type of disk image file used for backup. GHO files are most often cloned after computer hard drives and they contain all the data necessary for a user to duplicate the copied computer system on a second one.

Trying to use Ghost Explorer to recompile an image more than once in GSS 2.0x, build 1533 or 1573. Symptoms Error: 'Ghost Explorer was unable to compile the image file' This issue only occurs in multi-partition situations when the NTFS file partition precedes the FAT file partition and files were added to the NTFS file partition. The FAT file partition that immediately follows the NTFS file partition becomes corrupt as do the partitions that follow. The first 'Save' appears to succeed without problems. The problem appears during the second 'Save' when the corrupted FAT file partition attempts to recompile. Build 1597 of the Ghost Explorer was created to fix this issue.
